Are there any books, websites, magazines, etc. that you've found helpful in building your room's design? (Tips for shopping, designing, decorating, etc.) I've never found a good one, but I definitely am in the market!

EDIT: I am currently angry with photobucket. If you tried to look at my pictures and couldn't see them, comment so I know you can't see them either... I may just have to put them up on my website.

Hey everyone. Just thought I'd share pictures of my room, now that I've finally gotten around to taking some. Please excuse the clutter on my desk... I'm in the middle of writing a research paper. :-(

I took tons of pictures, so if you have a slow connection, you may want to make some coffee while waiting for them to load.

Any suggestions of what to put on the walls around my bed?

Come on in!Collapse )

I am going to be a Freshman this year at Western Oregon University, and I am very very excited about decorting my room! I have one tiny problem though, I don't know what I can use to hang up things like framed artwork, or my corkboard! I was thinking of just going against what is said and using tacs, and then using toothpaste to cover the holes, but if I can find something that will let me avoid putting holes in the walls, that would be great! Any suggestions? Please let me know!

community for dorm guys [04 Aug 2004|08:19pm]

We're the guys living on campus. High School/Academy/College/University IT DOESN"T MATTER!! You may love it or hate it. You have an annoying roommate? We've all had one! Financial office being a thorn in your side?! Tell us about it. Cafeteria food keeping you alive... i'm sorry. Up all night studying/partying/chatting/vacuuming/eating ramen... hey ya gotta do it sometime! We've got our own lives to deal with, tests to fail, scholarships to keep, and deans to impress. Keep it down to earth. This is the real deal. No sugar coating going on here. Feel free to bitch about your day, or share the moment you out smarted that one professor. Be proud of your educational career, no matter how dull it may be.

Suggggestions [02 Aug 2004|12:14pm]

Hi my name is Kate and I'm heading into my second year at the University of Alberta as well as my second year in dorms. I am getting a double room once again because I can save $$ which is a really big thing for me.

I have storage down to a science, I think. My desk has lots of drawers and shelves, my bed has 3 huge drawers, and I have a set of six drawers, then a closet above it. Then there is some overhead storage too, along the door. It's all built in stuff, aside from the bed, so it is study stuff. I have milk crates to move stuff and to use as shelving that will go in my closet. I don't have a lot of space persay but they definately gave us tons of storage.

My issue here is that during the winter, it is dark around 5ish, or at least it's heading in that direction quickly. I have class from 8-5 MWF and 9:30-5 TR (With some breaks in between but I won't be heading back to dorms, usually, during these times). I have 5-7 weekly assignments this year and I am usually drained by the end of the day. Drinking lots of water, and trying to watch what I eat (very hard with our mealplan and the choices offerred on campus) but winter nights+horrible dorm lighting, KILL ME. I picked up a desk lamp that helps somewhat, but I need some suggestions to brighten up my space, sans paint of course. I have a huge bulletin board that covers one wall that I cover with posters from bands and pictures. My sheets are bright yellow and they cheer me up but usually they cheer me up enough so I end up passing out on them hehe.

Does anyone here have any suggestions on what I can do to lighten the space up?

Let's get this party started. [30 Jul 2004|08:49pm]

Hi, I'm Tara. I'll be a first year (we're not called freshmen) at Hampshire College this year. I have a third floor single room. I'm obsessed with decorating it, and I'm not even there yet! My project this week is putting together some wall hangings out of wood frames and a vintage tapestry that I bought.

The room is very very tiny, and I'm an anal retentive neat freak, so I want everything out of sight. Any storage tips? I don't want a lofted bed or anything plastic.

This is the first post in the I <3 my dorm community...I'm Alana, the moderator. I'm a junior, and I'm going into a single room this fall, so I'm hoping to get some tips and share some of my own. I'm going to have to promote this place and give it some time to grow, but I'm sure we can make a good community. Don't be scared to join up and post about anything related to dorms, have fun with it!
